Quest makes the priority of evangelism and discipleship core to the process of starting a new church, with public gatherings viewed as an outcome rather than the primary means of ministry. The goal is organic ministry emergence, working in partnership with the Spirit of God to birth a new church into a city, town or region.
Quest uses a rabbinical/adult learning approach that utilizes a combination of instruction, dialog, large & small group discussion, various types of media and team projects.
Participants: As the primary focus of the event is to prepare for a new church start, the key people who should participate are:
· The primary church planter couple · The leadership community of the new work · Any core community members dedicated to the new plant · Church planting coaches are also encouraged to attend with their planters
Pre-work: Several Key elements need to be completed by participants prior to attending the Quest intensive, all of which are available from ChurchSmart Resources:
· Beyond Church Planting should be completed in its entirety before the event by the primary planter. It can be done as a group exercise as well. Special attention should be paid to completing the work in the Planning Guide tab. · A New Testament Trilogy – Our God, Ourselves and Our Community and The Kingdom Quest – Church Planting in the Post-Christian West should be read by the planting leader prior to the event. · The ABC’s of Natural Church Development, a small booklet by Christian Schwarz, should also be read by each participant. · Each participant should as also complete a spiritual gift inventory chosen by the planting leader as well as a DiSC profile. (See www.discprofile.com for DiSC or www.uniquelyyou.com for a combination of a spiritual gift assessment and DiSC profile.)
